Working from home has become a growing trend in the world with global high speed reach of the internet. There are tons of advantages to working from home: zero commute time, seeing your family, flexible hours. Yet, there are unforeseen consequences, after a while, YOU BEGIN TO FEEL LIKE A HOBBIT:
You never seem to find a need to wear shoes. You really just don't need them; you hardy even need pants most days. Those pesky video conferences camera never catch your feet, so why wear them at all; hairy toes or not? Save the cost of buying new shoes and count to 20 whenever you like!
Your home begins to feel quite small after a while. Your home is your world... you entire world. You sleep there, you eat there, you clean there, you exercise there, AND you work there. And no matter how large your home is, it begins to feels like a hobbit hole pretty darn quickly.
You hope everyday that somebody will come along and take you away on a grand adventure. Please. Anyone! A blood drive, a chemical leak evacuation, a proctologist appointment, a perilous quest that could have been avoided by the use of giant eagles... anything! Just please, get us out the door.
You often find yourself eating more than just one breakfast. No need to be limited by the meager food supply you packed with your Muppets lunch box . You have the infinite universe of breakfast eating opportunities in your pantry; assuming you actually found some shoes and got our the door to go shopping.
You fear some All-Seeing-Eye far away is watching you and may one day destroy you. The same online tools that allow you to work remotely also tattle tale to everyone when you are active on you computer. And for many of us, when you work from home, if you are not on your computer, you are not working. So eat that second breakfast and write that blog post at your computer so it appears to the that All-Seeing-Eye that you are working away.
.... and if you don't find your shoes, stop eating five meals a day, and get your butt out the door soon, you ain't never going to find a ring!
